Preaching Christ, Planting Churches, and Flying in Cameroon
March 8, 2009
Dear Praying Friends, Last week we wrote the following: "Vanessa is a young girl from another province who came to Camp Joy last summer and professed Jesus Christ as her Saviour. I received a phone call from missionaries in Foumban saying Vanessa was in a coma and needed to be evacuated to a hospital. I flew her to a mission hospital near here where she is undergoing treatment. Vanessa is a very sick girl and needs our prayers." The Lord has answered our prayers! Vanessa responded quickly to treatment and was discharged from the hospital yesterday with much improved health. She had badly infected kidneys. Both she and her mother were in church this morning and gave testimonies of the great things the Lord has done in saving her life. There are now more open doors in the hearts of Vanessa's family. We pray that many of them will trust in Christ and be saved. Thank you for praying! We hope you will enjoy the attached picture of Daniel, Vanessa, and me at the mission hospital.
In the meantime, Daniel is recovering from walking pneumonia, and Kathy is recovering from malaria. April is also under the weather. We have been greatly blessed by good health, but are going through some trials at the moment. Thanks for praying for our children!
I flew Brother Felix out of the bush last Monday. He had stomach pains and had been given the wrong treatment by a local clinic. He responded quickly to proper treatment at a mission hospital. Tomorrow I will fly him back to resume his faithful work of preaching the gospel and planting churches throughout the Akwaya region. We thank the Lord for his restored health. Felix is excited about ministering in the village of Ochumo, a village which is full of idolatry. At first he was fearful to go there, but has found the people eager to hear the gospel. We pray that they will respond by turning from idols to serve the living and true God (1 Thessalonians 1:9). "Now while Paul waited for them at Athens, his spirit was stirred in him, when he saw the city wholly given to idolatry." (Acts 17:16)
I preached from Acts 2 this morning at Gateway Baptist Church at Camp Joy. What a change was wrought in Peter when the promise of the Holy Spirit was given to him! God used him to win 3,000 souls in one day! The Lord will change and use us too, as we yield to Christ and are filled with the Holy Spirit.
There was a good attendance at the Chuku Bible Study this afternoon. I was able to witness the gospel extensively to Theodore who is a workman building a mosque and an Islamic school. He responded to my invitation to attend the Bible study. We pray for the salvation of Theodore and others who have come to hear the Word of God. Three young children responded to the gospel at Chuku and were saved today!
Tore Mitchell from Oshkosh, Wisconsin is an accomplished airplane mechanic. He is making plans to spend two weeks with us in April to repair the Sportsman airplane engine. This will be Brother Tore's third trip to Cameroon to help us!
Terry Rushing is assisting with acquiring new parts and assessing the best procedures to make the repairs. We are abundantly blessed with such good help from such good friends!
A Christian Fulani friend of ours who was formerly a Muslim is brokenhearted over the greatly increasing plague of AIDS among the young people in his tribe as a result of immorality.
Please pray for the salvation of the Fulani! Thank you again for your faithful prayers, encouragement and support.
Faithfully in Christ, Tom and Barb Needham, Kathy, Bethany, Sarah, Elizabeth, Daniel, April and Anna
"Finally, brethren, pray for us, that the word of the Lord may have free course, and be glorified, even as it is with you." (2 Thessalonians 3:1)
